Australia Awards alumnus Fathimath Muna Hussain is a lecturer at the Maldives National University. After completing a Masters in nursing studies at Monash University she returned to improve nursing care for the Maldives. Her achievements include helping to set up the countries first ever Bachelor of Nursing course. Australia Awards Scholarships have been an important component of the Australian Government's aid program since the 1950s. They contribute to the long term objectives of developing countries by promoting economic and social development. The Australian Government has brought thousands of emerging leaders from South Asia to study in Australia on scholarships that provide the skills and knowledge they need to drive change in their own countries.

Launched in 2015, the GRACE campaign helps Girls build Resilience, Aspirations, Capabilities and Empowerment. It aims to build their confidence to navigate social, cultural, economic and gender barriers. It is designed to help girls make informed educational decisions and invest in girls to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary for career development.
UWC Maldives is the Maldives National Committee responsible for organising Maldivian student selection for UWC Scholarships. UWC Maldives is an umbrella organisation of the UWC International. UWC is a two year program where students (16-18 years) from all over the world come together and undergo a rigorous holistic educational program. Dr. Hussain Haleem (aka Kuda Husen) is the captain of the first Olympic Team (1988) from Maldives. He represented (as athlete, official) on five more occasion at the Olympics. His success came through running after many failures in life. He is a high school dropout who, through his running prowess, got a sports scholarship (first by a Maldivian in any sport) from Australia. He studied from Australia and ended up in New Zealand and completed a PhD in Sports Coaching in 2006. Hussain still holds 4 Maldivian national records (since 1988, 1989 & 1990) in distance running including the Marathon (2:45’03). Bachelor of Education, 1992; Masters of Education, 1998 Ibrahim is a passionate advocate for human rights, democracy and equality in Maldivian society. Ibrahim returned to the Maldives after graduating and worked as a Planner and Researcher at the Ministry of Education bringing much needed change in education policy. Ibrahim lead the National curriculum development team, where he initiated changes to the primary curriculum and to the teacher training program. Ibrahim's work in linking assessment and learning was a first in the country and he went on to introduce a nationwide system of examination for secondary school leavers. Today, Ibrahim runs his own College, "Mandhu College" which he founded 10 years ago.
